"This Hawthorne, Calif., five-piece used to be called dios until a cease-and-desist from '80s icon Ronnie James Dio forced the name change. Apparently Dio's people felt the similarity would confuse fans, but d(m)'s sound ? a lazy, spacey brand of indie pop ? couldn't be more different. Recalling such pop stalwarts as the Beach Boys and Lennon/McCartney, dios (malos) released its self-titled debut in March 2004, and the band was nominated for the coveted Shortlist Music Prize in 2004."
