Diaries of a K-Town Dive November 13, 2010

Susan Park’s one woman show, Diaries of a K-Town Dive, directed by Barbara Tarbuck, takes place in a hole-in-the-wall dive bar in the middle of the busy and neon lit Koreatown, Los Angeles. Diaries of a K-Town Dive’s characters include a young woman yearning to understand her relationship with her mother, a love obsessed girl who casts spells on vials of urine, a drunken high school teacher and others struggling with their choices and their luck in life. Park’s characters may trace their way through the streets of Ktown, but these are stories that can resonate with anyone in any town.
Susan Park (The Unusuals, Three Rivers), is originally from Los Angeles and spent the bulk of her life growing up in Koreatown, Los Angeles and Korea. She studied acting at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London and received her BA from Drama Centre London where she appeared in Fear and Misery by Brecht, Anything for a Quiet Life, by Middleton and Webster and Mirandolina by Goldini at the Cochrane Theatre. She met Barbara Tarbuck at UCLA Extension ten years ago but this is their first project together.
Barbara Tarbuck (Director) is an award winning Instructor at UCLA Extension for twenty years both teaching and directing. She has directed productions of Long Christmas Dinner, On The High Road, and American Justice. At High School of Performing Arts in New York she directed the Jean Claude Van Italie's Serpent and America Hurrah. Barbara won the Lincoln Center Best Street Theatre Project for an original musical with Inwood At Youth and the award winning solo show China Doll written and performed by Susan Merson at the Ensemble Studio Theatre in New York, Power Plays starring Joe Pantoliano at the Ensemble Studio Theatre LA, as well as Rhinoceros at Stages Theatre Center. She wrote and directed a PBS children's theatre piece Who Am I at the Barter Theatre in Abingdon, Virginia. Trained on a Fulbright Grant to LAMDA, Barbara’s professional life has combined acting, directing, and teaching.
