Our May meeting is going to be rather timely for those of us who have been using iDisks online storage in our MobileMe accounts. As you know, MobileMe is going away in June, which will mean that everything you have stored in your iDisk will be going away too. Apple will offer storage in the cloud, but what we knew with iDisk evidently is not what is going to happen with the new iCloud storage scheme.
Fortunately, there are several alternatives available at little or no cost. DropBox is probably the best known, but it offers only 2 gigabytes of free storage.
Introducing SugarSync. Our guests for our May general meeting Robb Henshaw, Director of Corporate Communications, and Samir Mehta, Director of Product Development are scheduled to do a presentation on SugarSync for us. SugarSync offers a free 5 gigabytes of online storage, more than double what DropBox offers.
The service enables you to access, synchronize and share your files across all your computers and devices. All of your documents, photos, music and movies can be available to your Mac, your PC at the office, your iPad, your Blackberry, or any other device. Moreover, there is a new iPad app available, also free. SugarSync may offer you services you have not had access to before you should come to the May meeting to learn more about them. I am informed that there will be a substantial door prize.
