For our next concert, DETOUR brings you eleven new pieces inspired by the upcoming election. Most are based on political speeches, originally given by everyone from Harvey Milk to Sarah Palin, from Charlie Chaplin's caricature of Hitler to 19th-century eccentric Emperor Norton I. A few are more abstract, reflecting on the political process purely through music. Some include electronics; some include video.
The composers involved: Jeremy Howard Beck, Seth Bedford, Robby Elfman, Lainie Fefferman, T.L. Hine, Brian Mark, Matt Marks, Angélica Negrón, Joseph N. Rubinstein, Tom Swafford, and Alex Temple.
