More than 100 youth performing artists from age 3-18 will celebrate community, creativity and the 20th anniversary of One of the Bay Area's most lauded and transformational youth arts programs, Destiny Arts Center in Oakland, in its annual Moving for Peace performance. Pre-performance picnicking, a parent/guardian talent show, arts and crafts booths and more begin at Noon. The event features all levels of Destiny Arts' youth training and performance programs from Teddy Bear Martial Arts to its Youth Performing Arts Company that annually presents the world premiere of an original musical theater work. The performance is free of charge, picnics are welcome and Destiny Arts Center is located at 1000 42nd Street, Oakland, CA 94609. www.destinyarts.org
Artistic Director Sarah Crowell says, "This is a great opportunity for the community to come out and see how our amazing young performers are changing their lives and enhancing their neighborhoods through the transformative power of dance, martial arts, theater and youth leadership."
The Moving for Peace event features all Destiny students and participants from both onsite Project Destiny programs in Oakland public schools. Schools represented in the performance include Claremont Middle School and Emerson, Ascend, Peralta, Santa Fe and Stonehurst Elementary Schools and Street Academy High School.
