Design Madison Speaker Series - UpNorth Graphic Design November 9, 2006

Design Madison lives to amplify the impact that design has on our society. But get right down to it, and we're about bringing together Madison's brightest creative thinkers. We cast our net from coast to coast, in search of novel forms of visual culture. The season's catch: Five leading creatives willing to share their work and discuss what drives them. We start mixing it up at 6:30 p.m. Speakers take the stage at 7:00 p.m. Paid-up dm members attend free. Nonmembers pay $35 per speaker event. Nonmember students pay $10. Cash bar.

Upnorth is Steve Green and Justin Kay. Currently based in New York City, once hailing from the bitter north of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Upnorth blends clean graphics and type which has been inspired by a rich history of skateboarding, Black Sabbath and the 1982 Milwaukee Brewers. Upnorth publishes the zine Oneonenine, does art direction for the young men's magazine Complex (one of the best designed magazines this side of GQ) and also does work for a number of skateboarding and urban companies.
