Tony Award-winning Canadian director Des McAnuff updates the story of Faust, bringing Gounod’s classic retelling of the familiar legend to the first half of the 20th century with a production that won praise in London last season. The Artistic Director of Canada’s Stratford Shakespeare Festival, McAnuff is also a Broadway mainstay (The Who’s Tommy, Guys & Dolls, Jersey Boys, the upcoming Broadway revival of Jesus Christ Superstar, a big hit this season at Stratford, among many others). Faust, McAnuff’s Met debut, features other prominent Canadian musical talents: rising-star conductor Yannick Nézet-Séguin, baritone Russell Braun, and mezzo-soprano Michele Losier.
