A forum examining the eight Democratic Party presidential candidates from a Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender perspective will be held on Wednesday evening, November 28, 7:00 p.m., in Room 4 of the University of Missouri Kansas City UMKC) School of Law, 52nd and Oak Streets.
The forum is co-hosted by the UMKC LGBT Student Life Office and the Four Freedoms Democratic Club. The Lesbian and Gay Community Center of Greater Kansas City, PROMO, KC PRIDE Democratic Club, Kansas Equality Coalition and the local chapter of the Human Rights Campaign are co-sponsors for the event.
During the Forum representatives from many of the local campaigns for the Democratic Presidential Candidates will make presentations regarding their candidates stand on issues important to LGBT citizens. They will also provide information about volunteering for these campaigns.
We want to get as many LGBT/Straight Ally persons and students involved in Missouri ’s February 5 Primary Election and the Kansas Democratic Caucuses as we can, said Jim MacDonald, Four Freedoms President. Our goal for the forum is to help persons who intend to vote in the Missouri Democratic Primary or participate in the Kansas Caucuses decide their vote and also to encourage them to get involved in the local campaign for their candidate.
The forum will also focus on how the Missouri Primary and the Kansas Caucuses work in determining the voting delegates selection for the Democratic Party’s National and State Conventions.
There is a major educational component to our Forum, Jim MacDonald said. Most people don’t understand how the Primary and Caucuses work in determining delegates. They don’t understand how the delegates to the National Convention, the ones who actually vote on the nomination, are selected.
The forum, which is free and open to the public, is from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 28, 2007, in Room 4 of the UMKC Law School , 52nd and Oak.
