This ongoing monthly course will be taught by Kathy Duguid, MFT, and Lani Long, M.F.T.
The class session lasts from 4:30 until 6:30 pm.
This class will teach The Loving Listener's of Light (volunteers who listen at Dance In The Light) and Spiritual Counselor's when to refer to a professional therapist. Also this class is designed to help the healer's with their own personal growth. The greatest help a person can give is when their first explore their own issues and learn from them. This class will allow the volunteers and spiritual counselors an opportunity to discuss cases (without names) and to provide support. We hope all spiritual counselors and volunteers will take the opportunity to attend this fabulous class.
Kathy Duguid is a Marriage and Family Therapist.
She works with individuals and couples using many tools perfected over more than 20 years to help with communication, insight and behavioral change. Her background is in Transpersonal Psychology, which is the branch of psychology that recognizes change must include mind, body and spirit. She works with couples and individuals to help them improve their communications, understand their values and develop compassion and empathy for the differences between them and their loved ones.
She has worked with hypnosis and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) for over 20 years with individuals with traumatic and abusive histories or with individuals who are wanting to change habits and behaviors. These techniques can be effective with eating disorders, addictions, and dissociative disorders.
She has worked with people who have suffered severe early childhood trauma and is able to accompany them on their healing journey.
Lani Long is a cognitive behavioral therapist whose specialty is helping people through trauma and abuse issues.
Lani has had wonderful success working with people in the midst of life transitions, including women, blended families, and people with alternative lifestyles. I lead group sessions on several topics including self-esteem, depression and parenting. For over 10 years, she has facilitated a continuing group for adults (both male and female) who were molested as children. I also offer groups in grief therapy (including pet grief), women's issues, and a spiritual growth class.
She is a cognitive behavioral therapist, using many eclectic practices and has found EMDR lessens the impact of discrete trauma events and is especially helpful in decreasing the number of sessions to lessen the impact of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, while increasing the length of time in healing from major trauma. She also use Gestalt techniques, dream work, journaling, homework and art exercises to enhance treatment outcome.
Lani's belief is that therapy should take place in a warm, comfortable and safe setting which Deep Canyon Counseling provides. The visual tranquility of the landscaping and the sweet sights and sounds of the birds, allows one to imagine being far away from the noise and activity of the urban center of the Coachella Valley.
