Carleton College will hold a dedication ceremony for its 1.65 megawatt wind turbine at 9 a.m. on Saturday, September 25, at the wind turbine site. The turbine is located 1.5 miles east of the Carleton College campus on Wall Street Road. The event is open to the public.
Transportation to the wind turbine site is available starting at 8:15 a.m. Shuttles will depart from the front of Sayles-Hill Campus Center at Carleton, and parking is available on campus.
At the dedication, President Robert A. Oden Jr., Director of Facilities Richard Strong, senior student Emily Levine and others will speak. Oden will do the ceremonial ribbon cutting, and the wind turbine will officially begin producing green energy.
Carleton is the first college in the country to own a utility-grade wind turbine, which was purchased for $1.8 million as part of the College?s commitment to producing and using green energy. The energy produced, which is equivalent to about 40 percent of Carleton?s energy usage or the energy required to power about 600 homes, will be sold to Xcel Energy.
