There are many techniques for making Easter eggs . Eggs decorated using the wax-resist method are called pisanki in Polish, from the verb "to write," because designs are written on eggs with melted wax. As wax designs are drawn on an egg, it is dipped into a series of dye baths progressing from light to dark colors. Colored designs covered by a protective coat of wax "resist" later dyes. Accumulated wax designs are finally melted and removed, revealing the colors they have protected.
