Misconceptions about Native Americans are the focus of a new exhibit at the Mitchell Museum of the American Indian. The museum recently surveyed Native people in the U.S. and Canada, asking them to identify stereotypes and other false impressions that affect their lives. The exhibit is structured around the 10 most frequently cited fallacies. Comments and photos submitted by survey participants are incorporated into the displays, along with quotes from well-known Native people and artifacts and artwork that contradict stereotypes.
