When Deborah Rodriguez arrived in Kabul shortly after the fall of the Taliban, along with a relief group of doctors, teachers and other aid workers, her skills as a hairdresser seemed of little use to the struggling people of Afghanistan. They needed medical attention and homes rebuilt, not highlights. But when Deborah heard that the Taliban had banned beauty parlors, the one place where women could get away, unveiled, from the oppressive men in their lives, she realized her true calling.
