Mayor Adrian M. Fenty will present 2007 Mayor’s Awards for Excellence in Historic Preservation at the 5th annual awards ceremony on evening of Tuesday, October 9th at the Atlas Performing Arts Center, 1333 H Street, NE in the emerging H.Street corridor.
An even dozen awards will be presented from the Atlas stage by Mayor Fenty and OP Director Harriet Tregoning for historic preservation projects, archaeology, community involvement, public education, lifetime achievement, as well as the selections for the HPRB chairman and SHPO awards.
This year marks the third consecutive year the event is co-sponsored by the DC Preservation League. And thanks to generous support from our lead event sponsor the Logan Hardware, Glover Hardware, Tenley Ace Hardware stores, “A few cool Hardware Stores”™, owned by Marc Friedman and Gina Schaefer, and our hosts, the Atlas Performing Arts Center, this year’s event will be a memorable one for the historic preservation and development community of the District of Columbia. Additional support for the event is provided by Nixon Peabody LLP Attorneys at Law, U.S. Bank, and the law firm of Jones Day.
The location for the 2007 event, The Art Moderne-style Atlas Performing Arts Center was designed by prominent theater architectb John Zink. Opened in 1938, the theater operated until 1970. Listed as a DC Landmark in 1999, the theater and adjoining shops were recently transformed into a performance center of more than 59,000 square feet that includes four theatres, three dance studios, production and rehearsal space, and offices.
There is no charge to attend the Mayor’s Awards, however, reservations are required.
