Located in the lower east side of Manhattan, the Tenement Museum celebrates the transition that immigrants made to begin their new lives here in the United States. Our guided tour of the Tenement Museum will help us experience how immigrants between 1863 and 1935 survived economic depression. We will visit the restored homes of the German-Jewish Gumpertz family and the Italian-Catholic Baldizzi family. Please note that this trip is not handicapped accessible.
Next we will travel to the Upper East Side where lunch is on your own. A list of restaurants will be provided on the bus.
The afternoon’s aesthetic and historic counterpoint will be a visit to the Kip's Bay Show House. This annual event, a major fundraiser for the Kips Bay Boys and Girls Club, showcases the expertise and talent of more than 20 of today’s top interior decorators.
