Multi award winning jazz duo Davis and Dow join an impressive line up of renowned jazz musicians performing for the Jazz Project at the Arts Garage. "Jazz is our greatest American art form. It is precious and yet very fragile in this day in age when music and art is being yanked out of so many schools. It transcends prejudice and bigotry. It inspires the weary and gives hope to the young,” said Julie Davis. “Jazz is where we can all come together and meld our cultures and ideas in an extemporaneous yet cooperative celebration. So we thank Arts Garage from the bottom of our hearts for supporting and promoting America's true art form in such a hip and sophisticated venue.”
Known as soul mates that are two strong halves of one BIG sound, Davis and Dow tackle jazz and pop standards with a daring sense of abandon. Their style is deeply rooted in the classic jazz tradition but with a playfulness that keeps the music fresh and fun. Recognized as one of the finest and most versatile jazz singers of her generation, Julie Davis is everything from scat‐singer to balladeer and Kelly Dow is a world‐class guitarist.
“We share the same passion with Davis and Dow,” said Alyona Ushe, executive director of Arts Garage. “We are committed to cross generational barriers by introducing ‘the newer generations to a young American art form called jazz’ as Julie puts it. “
Davis and Dow have toured Japan, London, and New York. They’ve composed and performed original music for the TV show FoodNation with Bobby Flay and produced Great Jazz Divas: a multimedia show that celebrates women, music, and history. They have been featured in JazzTimes Magazine’s 2002 year
in review issue and voted Best Jazz Artists by New Times Magazine with Julie Davis also being voted Best Jazz Vocalist by City Link Magazine. Davis and Dow were also awarded a juried showcase at the prestigious Performing Arts Exchange 2007 in Louisville, KY.
