Trombonist/composer/arranger David White is an emerging young artist who is beginning to make waves in the New York jazz scene. David's musical style marks the confluence of diverse sources of inspiration. As a composer, he creates unique sounsscpaes filled with gently sloping melodies and subtly shifting colors. As a trombonist, he utilizes the full scope of his instrument's capabilities to generate music that ranges from mellow and seductive to furious and explosive. Born in Buffalo, NY on January 16, 1979, David began his musical studies at the age of 11. At the age of 14, baritone saxophonist/bandleader Macy Favor took David under his wing. With Mr. Favor's orchestra, David performed frequently at Buffalo's historic Colored Musician's Club. There he gained much needed experience and learned valuable lessons from the senior members of the ensemble. While in Buffalo, David performed with many of that city's top musicians and studied with John Hasselback Jr. and Richard Meyers of the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra. Upon graduating from high school, David moved to New York to attend the Purchase College Conservatory of Music. There he studied trombone and composition with Jim Pugh. He also received instruction from Jon Faddis, Todd Coolman, Hal Galper, Charles Blenzig and Pete Malinverni. Under the guidance of these master musicians, David fastidiously honed his craft and his musical ideas began to take flight. He earned Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees from the Purchase Conservatory. David now leads two musical groups: The David White Quintet and the David White Triskaidektet. In addition, he has performed with such notables as Jon Faddis, David Taylor, Slide Hampton, Doc Severinsen, Todd Coolman, Jeff Jarvis, James Weidman, Frank Lowe and Kenny Burrell.
