David J Premiers His New Play THE CHANTEUSE AND THE DEVIL’S MUSE September 8, 2011

In this theatrical staging, David J’s musical frame-work is melded together with the storey of torch singer, Madi Comfort, a historical figure from the real case, whose boyfriend was one of the prime suspects in Short’s grisly murder. Will her police interrogation reveal a dark secret that will finally unlock the mystery of the “Black Dahlia”?

The production features live music by David J, Ego Plum and Ysanne Spevack (Smashing Pumpkins, English National Opera). The role of Madi Comfort will be played by Daniele Watts (two-time NAACP Award-winner and Ovation Award nominee), with Tracey Leigh (Obie Award-winner) making special appearances in the role throughout the run. The part of Lieutenant Frank Jemison will be played by Douglas Dickerman. The play also features the internationally acclaimed Butoh performer, Vangeline.
