Proficient on guitar, violin, mandolin and banjo, Bromberg's music contains elements of folk, blues, bluegrass and rock. Comedy and lengthy narrative stories are often inserted between choruses. In the 1960s, Rowan was a member of Bill Monroe's Bluegrass Boys, learning bluegrass at the master's knee. Since then, he has played in various bands and has also achieved a successful solo career. Tony Rice, the original guitarist of the David Grisman Quintet, is known as one of the most innovative flat-picked guitar players in the last 25 years. Rice covers everything from straight-ahead bluegrass to jazz-influenced new acoustic music.
