Vibraphone master Dr. David Hagedorn is an Artist-in-Residence in the Music Department at St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN, where he teaches percussion, jazz studies and world music. Pianist and composer Dan Cavanagh is a former student of Hagedorn's. Dan graduated from St. Olaf College with a Bachelor of Music degree in Theory/Composition. In 2004, Cavanagh received a Master of Music degree in jazz studies from the University of Oregon, and was awarded the Outstanding Graduate Student in Jazz Studies award upon graduation. Currently, he is an Assistant Professor of Music and the Assistant Director of Jazz Studies at the University of Texas Arlington, where he directs the jazz ensemble and teaches jazz composition and improvisation. He is active as a pianist and composer in the Dallas/Fort Worth area.
