David Lang retells Hans Christian Andersen's classic tale 'The Little Match Girl' through the prism of Bach's St. Matthew Passion, weaving a heart-breaking spell in a Pulitzer Prize- and Grammy Award-winning composition. Pacific Chorale Artistic Director John Alexander pairs this Southern California premiere performance with a famous lament by Carissimi, and with Gabriel Faure's beautiful, consoling Requiem.
