Directed by writer/producer Darin Scott (Tales From the Hood), this gorefest is a high-tech take on the traditional “haunted house,” featuring a charismatically maniacal performance by horror legend Jeffrey Combs (Re-Animator, The Frighteners, Star Trek). Combs plays an impresario of a new haunted house attraction, who recruits young drama students to play their parts amidst holographic projections of monsters. The students become victims as the house locks down and the attractions begin to attack them with murderous intent. Winner of “Best Feature” at the Shriekfest Horror Film Festival.
“Looks, sounds and feels a lot better than the majority of studio horror films. If you enjoy old-fashioned haunted house flicks with plenty of snarky humor, unabashed boo-scares, and grand guignol gore, step into DARK HOUSE.” – horror.com
Announced July 19, horror film fans voted for one of eight of FANGORIA’s favorite films to be released theatrically July 30 in NY, Dallas and San Francisco. The San Francisco engagement of the winner, DARK HOUSE, will be at Landmark’s Opera Plaza Cinema, showing July 30 through August 5. Horror fans were given the opportunity to choose the film they wished to see in theatres. Each vote was automatically entered in a sweepstakes to win a free trip to Las Vegas and other special prizes—all for just trying to get more quality horror films into theaters. For more information, including trailers and each movie’s rank visit www.fangoriafrightfest.com. The entire film series will be previewed in a 30-minute special, 8 FANGORIA FRIGHTS (available free on Time Warner, Comcast, Cablevision, Verizon FIOS and other cable systems; check with your provider), hosted by CABIN FEVER star Cerina Vincent and featuring interviews with many of the eight films’ directors, clips and featurettes. The program can be found though the On Demand menu.
“I think the contest to try to win a theatrical release this summer is the ultimate in horror fan empowerment, it's an exciting, out-of-the-box idea that brings the fans the film they most want to see. In an era when most horror fans feel the studios are totally not listening to them and don't care how they feel, it's a tremendous breath of fresh air.”- Darin Scott, Dark House helmer
“Dark House looks, sounds and feels a lot better than the majority of studio horror film I see in any given year….this movie delivers on every expected level. If you enjoy old-fashioned haunted house flicks with plenty of snarky humor, unabashed boo-scares, and grand guignol gore, step into Dark House.”- Staci Layne Wilson, Horror.com
“There is much to love about Dark House. The cast is in top form…Combs is always amazing…I’ll be honest, I just adored Dark House. It creates a striking balance of horror and humor…It’s a total popcorn fare that takes you back to the grand days of the 90s, where the point of the movie was to astound and entertain you.”- Amanda by Night, Horroryearbook.com
The film’s running time is 86 minutes; it is rated R.
