Dare to be Digital is the UK’s premier video games design competition for university students originally developed by the University of Abertay. Each summer a group of highly talented teams of arts and science students are set up to work in near industry conditions with mentoring from industry professionals. Their objective is to produce a prototype video game and pitch it to industry leaders. In addition to that the three winners of Dare to be Digital form the nominees for the new BAFTA Ones to Watch Award being presented at the BAFTA Video Games Awards on 23rd October.
This year the twelve five-person teams worked in three centres at Electronic Arts Guildford, at Queens University Belfast and at Abertay University in Dundee. The teams then went on the road and presented their games to an audience of 2,500 at Dare ProtoPlay in the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Now London has an opportunity to see the edited highlights of that showcase in a touring exhibition of the games and film screening detailing the 10 weeks of hard work by the teams.
The exhibition features concept art, finished characters, games trailers, playable demos and a documentary film plus some games will be available for free download on a first come first served basis – bring a laptop.
