Hailing from historic County Waterford and named after the Celtic goddess, Danú is one of today’s leading traditional Irish ensembles. The group’s high-energy celebration of the Emerald Isle offers an authentic Irish musical journey with “a vibrant mix of virtuosity, energy and empathy,” says The Washington Post. Combining vocals with traditional instruments such as flute, tin whistle, fiddle, button accordion and bouzouki, Danú mixes ancient Irish music with contemporary works to create a memorable evening of music.
Danú has performed around the globe and recorded seven critically acclaimed albums. The group’s live DVD, “One Night Stand,” was filmed at Vicar St. Dublin. Winner of numerous awards from the BBC and Irish Music Magazine, the ensemble has toured throughout Europe, the Middle East and North America with stops at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, Symphony Space in New York City and other major venues in the United Kingdom, Europe, India, and Israel.
Performing since 1995, the members of the band include Benny McCarthy, Donal Clancy, Eamon Doorley, Muireann Nic Amhlaoibh, Oisin McAuley and Martin O’Neill.
Tickets are $26 and are available at 303-987-7845, www.Lakewood.org/Tickets or the Lakewood Cultural Center Box Office, 470 S. Allison Parkway (Wadsworth and West Alameda Avenue). Ample, free parking.
