Danny Mixon is a talented pianist who gained some attention in the 1970s but never broke through to gain much fame. He began playing music in Atlantic City in 1966. After working with Joe Lee Wilson from 1967-70, Mixon played regularly with Betty Carter from 1971-72. He had his own trio, recorded with the Piano Choir and worked with a variety of top names including Kenny Dorham, Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers, Frank Foster, Grant Green, Pharaoh Sanders (1975), Joe Williams, Eddie Jefferson and Dee Dee Bridgewater. Mixon was in Charles Mingus' band in 1976 and played with Dannie Richmond in the late 1970s. Unfortunately, Mixon has had a rather low profile since that time period, just leading one album (in 1985) for the obscure Cinderella label. ~ Scott Yanow, All Music Guide
