Celebrate International Dance Day and enjoy free dance performances, live music, and learn some moves!
The Dance Umbrella of Ontario (DUO) is proud to present over 10 Toronto-based dance companies and dancers who will perform for FREE in Yonge-Dundas Square in celebration of International Dance Day. This event will celebrate dance by bringing fantastic Toronto artists together for a one of a kind performance. There will be stage performances, performances in the square with the audience, as well as interactive dance presentations.
COBA, Collective of Black Artists will bring their Dance and Drum–a–thon in a parade style performance from Bathurst and Queen to the square. Spectators will also have chance to learn the Michael Jackson Thriller dance as a sneak peek into the Thrill the World project (more info at www.thrilltheworld.com)
Others performing include Zata Omm Dance Projects, a Toronto based modern dance company, Company Blonde, a fun all female collective that strives to entertain through stories and experiences from their lives and communities, Baila Boogaloo Dance Company, an energetic salsa dance troupe, Collective Heat, presenting an exciting exploration of superheroes!, OIP, a Toronto-based hip-hop dance company and Janak Khendry Dance Company, who will present traditional Indian dance.
The 25th annual International Dance Day is a UNESCO designated day for celebrating dance and dance artists. This year, International Dance Day is dedicated to children, and there will be lots for children to see at this one time event. We encourage all of Toronto to come out and join us in Dance Day festivities.
Dance Umbrella of Ontario (DUO) is a not-for-profit arts administration organization. DUO would like to thank the Ontario Trillium Foundation and the George Cedric Metcalf Charitable Foundation for their generous support to dance animation activities.
