This summer, on the rise and frequently commissioned ballet and modern dance choreographer, Darrell Grand Moultrie will debut his newly established company Dance Grand Moultrie. On July 15 and 16 at 8pm, Moultrie will offer two world premieres alongside the NYC premiere of Regality as performed by Pittsburgh’s August Wilson Center Dance Ensemble at Central Park SummerStage/MainStage.
Dance Grand Moultrie is a contemporary ballet and modern dance company led by acclaimed choreographer Darrell Grand Moultrie, aimed at pushing classical ballet and modern dance forms to new limits. Through collaborations with dancers from multiple backgrounds and genres, Moultrie will create inspired works that provoke, enlighten, and stress the boundaries of traditional classical and modern dance technique.
Moultrie has been making quite the name for himself as a frequently commissioned choreographer in the genres of contemporary ballet and modern dance for such esteemed companies as the Atlanta Ballet (Boiling Point), Ailey2 (Aspects of a Vibe, Celestial Landscape) Dance Theatre of Harlem (Believe), Sacramento Ballet (Moved), Colorado Ballet (Vital Sensations, 2nd Exposure), BalletMet Columbus (!Square Off!, Simply Sammy—collaboration with Cincinnati Ballet, and Wrath), Milwaukee Ballet (Vital Sensations, Frequencies Lit) and the Cincinnati Ballet (Heightened, Three for G, Simply Sammy), receiving rave reviews in the process. Words such as “smash hit,” brilliant invention,” “angular gestures with classical vocabulary,” “handsome patterns,” “imaginatively arranged,” are all used when describing Moultrie’s choreographic works.
Moultrie has a decidedly unique approach to dance where form, athleticism, and musicality meet to create works that are complex, have a distinct eye towards shape and line, and are visually intriguing through his use of both the vertical and horizontal space.
Don't miss this opportunity to see a rising star in the making!
