Dance Camera West closes its month-long Dance Media Film Festival with a bang on Sunday, June 27 at 8:00pm with the film Dzi Croquettes at Grand Performances in Downtown Los Angeles. In addition to the film, the event will feature a surprise guest introduction.
Dzi Croquettes is a revealing Brazilian documentary that explores the legacy of the daringly original, all-male dance and theater group by the same name resembling a late-20th-century version of the Ziegfeld Follies. The cabaret group - Dzi Croquettes - used an empowering sexuality to counter Brazil's military dictatorship and revolutionize the gay movement worldwide during the 1970s. The feature documentary is Tatiana Issa and Raphael Alvarez's pleasure-packed exploration of the group's impact, using a multitude of talking heads and period footage to chronicle the troupe's seminal influence on their time and today's culture. Dzi Croquettes is the most awarded documentary in Brazil's history. Awards include: Best Documentary Jury Award and Audience Award Rio de Janeiro Film Festival. Portuguese with English subtitles. Adult content. Brazil, 2009, 95 minutes.
This outdoor screening is FREE. Grand Performances events are held in California Plaza, an urban amphitheatre with a waterfall and reflecting pools in a courtyard surrounded by skyscrapers. Free street parking all day Sunday.
