The Capitol Hill Arts Workshop (CHAW) is presenting Tommy Parlon Dance Projects and Nicole Lamm, Soprano, and Jesse Crites, Guitarist, in a concert of new dance works and Spanish songs for voice and guitar on Saturday, March 13, 2010, 7 PM. Tommy Parlon will be joined by his long time dance partners Julia Smith and Pamela England and will showcase his own choreography as well as the choreography of Pamela England, and Alvin Mayes. Nicole Lamm and Jesse Crites will present Spanish songs including: “Siete Canciones Populares” by Manuel de Falla and several Seguidillas by Fernando Sor.
The concert immediately follows a reception and gallery opening for “Seascapes” an exhibit of mixed media arts by members of the Capitol Hill Art League, a program of CHAW. The mixed media show is juried by Trudi Van Dyke, who teaches at George Mason University and curates exhibitions nationally and internationally.
Admission to the concert is a suggested contribution of $10 at the door. Admission to the “Seascapes” reception and opening is free. CHAW is located at 545 7th Street SE, two blocks south of the Eastern Market metro.
Tommy Parlon, a native of Washington, D.C., received his M.F.A. in Dance (Choreography and Technology) from Arizona State University and his B.F.A. in Dance and Choreography from Virginia Commonwealth University. While in New York City he danced with J. Fregalette Janson Dance, Centaur Dance Theatre, Beyondance Inc! and the Paris based multi-media performance art company FIASCO. His choreography has been commissioned by Incidents Physical Theater of New York City, NEW ARTiculations in Tucson, Arizona, Lansing Chamber Dance in Michigan, and numerous colleges throughout the United States.
Nicole Lamm, soprano, received her Masters of Music degree in vocal performance at Catholic University of America and her Bachelor of Arts degree in Music from Sweet Briar College. Her operatic experience consists of roles such as Pamina (Die Zauberflöte), Susanna (Le Nozze di Figaro), Zerlina (Don Giovanni), and many others including the role of Rosasharn in the Hawaiian premier of The Grapes of Wrath Suite by Ricky Ian Gordon. She has performed with Opera Roanoke, Maryland Opera Society, New York Opera Society, and other companies both with the USA and internationally. She also performs regularly with the 7 Sopranos throughout the DC metropolitan area.
Jesse Crites is an accomplished guitarist with a Master of Music from Roosevelt University where he studied in the studio of renowned guitarist Denis Azabagic. He also studied in the studio of Dr. Glenn Caluda and privately with Berta Rojas. He maintains a private and group guitar instruction studio for all ages and levels in Falls Church.
