For DAMÂN, Esoterics founding director Eric Banks has assembled an a cappella choral opera based on the ancient texts of singing practices of the Parsis. The seven creations will be based in part on the gathas, arguably the oldest songs in human history, as well as sections of the Bundahishn, the Persian creation story, in which the struggle between good and evil results in the creation of the seven elements we know as the sky, water, earth, plants, animals, humans, and fire. For this ambitious, seven-movement work, Banks was honored with an Access to Artistic Excellence grant from the National Endowment for the Arts to support the composition, performance, and recording of his opera.

The Esoterics will partner once again with One America With Justice for All (formerly Hate Free Zone) for DAMÂN, making the concert series a benefit for this organization.
