Born in Cuba and a New York resident for the past decade, drummer and composer Dafnis Prieto has already established a unique voice as a leader after three albums under his own name. His CD'Absolute Quintet' was nominated for a Grammy Award in 2006 and he received a Latin Grammy nomination for Best New Artist in 2007. He is also known for his work as a sideman with musicians such as Steve Coleman, Henry Threadgill, Eddie Palmieri, and Michel Camilo, among others. An outgrowth of the Sextet that recorded the acclaimed album 'Taking the Soul for a Walk,' his new Si o Si Quartet demonstrates Prieto's extraordinary talents as a composer and bandleader.
