April 5-30, 10:30am to 5:30pm Tuesday-Saturday; opening reception Thursday, April 7, 5:00-7:30pm
Sandra Lee Gallery is proud to present the two-person exhibition featuring the work of artists Don Fritz and Lawrence McAdams. The exhibition will be on view at the gallery April 5th-30th, 2011. The public is welcome to attend the opening reception on Thursday, April 7th from 5:00-7:30 pm, where the artists will be in attendance to discuss their work.
Art professor at Santa Clara University, Don Fritz, is an artist whose style evolved from the commingling of Pop Art and society's obsession with cultural artifact. His whimsical paintings and ceramics reveal the demand for iconic imagery both past and present. This work is the depiction of childlike innocence; children engaging in the appropriate societal roles, layered with the familiar toys, dolls, books and symbols that convinced them to behave accordingly. It is a reflection of how popular imagery plays an important role in the development of gender identity in children.
Los Angeles artist Lawrence McAdams's realistic imagery is a metaphor of the battle and beauty of life. His cinematic composition and attractive subjects are captured in the fleeting moments of their passing contentment.
The juxtaposition of these two artist's work suggests both the allure of mature beauty and the decadence of childhood. The contrast of these artists presents a dialogue that will engage self reflection and a curious association with both the paintings and the viewer's own memory.
