Cultures in Motion: Swift to My Wounded (7:30pm show) October 20, 2008

The great American poet Walt Whitman lived and worked in Washington, D.C., from 1863 to 1873. Bill Largess brings Whitman to life through the poet’s own journals and poetry.

The script for this program was dramatically adapted by E. Warren Perry Jr., National Portrait Gallery staff member. Whitman cared for the sick and injured Union soldiers during the Civil War in the National Historic Landmark Building (where the Portrait Gallery is now housed), six blocks east of the National Theatre.
