Inspired by the group's discussions with local Angelinos affected by homelessness, this dance production uses the dynamic intensity of urban dance and art forms to explore the universal issue of homelessness in the country of opportunity.
Every individual has a unique story impacted by family, community, lifestyle and economic factors. The Soul Survivors explores and highlights these experiences from those who are impacted by the traditional definition of physical homelessness, as well as the plight of individuals who may feel emotionally devoid of a home. Using a fusion of urban dance styles, along with the integration of spoken word pieces, this production portrays the soulful journeys of a traumatized war veteran, a hopeful youth, a family embroiled in the financial crisis, and individuals combating perceptions of social exile.
The evening begins with special performances from Poreotics (MTV's America's Best Dance Crew, Season 5 Champions) and Kaba Modern Legacy. Both of these dance crews feature former Culture Shock Los Angeles members who look forward to reuniting with the company at the Ford Amphitheatre performance.
