Objects in art are historically part of the whole picture, so to speak, used to clue the viewer into context. The item's only function, then, becomes assisting the narrative. What happens when you take the object out of context and examine it on it's own? Does it become merely decorative? Or can modern images of objects, depicted by local, emerging talent, hold enough currency on their own to give a feeling of time, place and culture? We will explore this at Fivepoints Arthouse during the February exhibit: Cultural Artifacts, featuring new work by Lee Harvey Roswell, Dion Campbell, Weston Teruya, Marin Camille Hood and Ross Campbell among others.
