Refreshed after returning to their native Brazil, CSS (Cansei de Ser Sexy or 'Got Tired of Being Sexy,) consider themselves flag wavers for and from an alternative generation. With songs in both English and Portugese, the third CSS album finds the five band members making music outside of and beyond conventional standards of physical and sonic beauty.
Though three years might seem like a long time to have waited for CSS's "La Liberacion," this album, recorded in Sao Paolo, features contributions from Ratatat and Primal Scream's Bobby Gillespie. Solidly melding the soundscapes of their 2003 debut's riotous anarchy and the grunged-up maturity of 2008's "Donkey," the new album's soundscapes show off some screaming sonic tricks, while holding on to the counterculture threads spun through all their music.
