Certified ScrumMaster (CSM) workshop Tuesday 20 - Wednesday 21 March, 2012
About the Courses
Certified ScrumMaster (CSM), 20-21 March
This 2-day Certified ScrumMaster (CSM) course is an immersive learning experience involving a highly interactive mix of seminars, group discussions, team activities, games and role-plays introducing the concepts and application principles of the Scrum framework.
You will learn:
The philosophy, science, values and principles that guide you in becoming more agile using Scrum
The Scrum roles and how they fit together in depth
How Project Management is addressed by Scrum
Techniques for getting the most out of the Scrum rituals
How to establish a Definition of Done and keep an appropriately refined Product Backlog
How to lead an agile team effectively without micro-managing or interfering with its self-organisation
You will learn the essential concepts, roles and the tools of Scrum, providing you with a roadmap for adopting Agile. Learn how to lead development teams towards agile operations by managing product backlogs, planning releases and sprints, tracking and reporting progress, and holding retrospectives.
Upon completion of the course, you are eligible to take an exam, the successful completion of which gains you the designation of Certified ScrumMasters (CSM), a first step in the journey towards this more adaptive form of project work and leadership. Included in the course is membership in the Scrum Alliance, where valuable ScrumMaster material and information is available exclusively to CSMs.
Please note that in our course we use Scrum to teach Scrum! It will consist of two sprints, the first is "Context and Components" of Scrum, the second is "Scrum Flow"
Personal Kanban 1-day workshop prior to CSM, Monday 19 March
Today, work comes at us from many different angles. Projects, family, billable work, non-billable work, personal growth, friends, and so forth.
We spend a lot of time inventing, following, and even becoming certified in processes for teams and work projects. We spend even more time trying to optimize our teams. But teams are made up of people and, in the end, people end up being what makes or breaks the team. Shouldn't we spend some time finding ways to make work better for the people doing it?
Participants will learn what Personal Kanban is, how to apply it and other techniques to manage their own work, and by extension to teams. Each person will design their own Personal Kanban ready for use.
The course is based on the work by Jim Benson & Tonianne DeMaria Barry and their book Personal Kanban the Book and will help you optimise your work as well as that of the team.
What You Will Learn:
Introduction to visualising work
Move towards balance - prioritise work so important isn’t crowded out by the “urgent”
Limit work in progress - understand impact and how to lessen
Juggle different types of work
How to involve other team members
Finding collaborative opportunities
Planning with Kanban
The psychology behind the board
Learning outcomes:
Create a personal work flow using variety of visualisation techniques
Explain the costs inherent to having too much work in progress (WIP), and how to lessen its impact
Adapt personal work flow to model changes in personal life
Walk away with a tailor made personal kanban board for immediate use
Understand how personal effectiveness ties in with team and organisational effectiveness
