“The benchmark for 2008's best electronic record has been set”. - MOJO
“Crystal Castles make dance music for sociopaths. They’re ’80s like Patrick Bateman and the Blade Runner replicants. They’re the cocktail made with strychnine and broken glass that you drink anyway, and ‘Courtship Dating’ is the best piece of humanity-loathing cyborg pop since The Knife’s Silent Shout” - NME
Following their debut Australian tour in 2007, including sold out shows across the country and a stellar performance at the Meredith Music Festival, Toronto duo Crystal Castles will grace Australian shores again next February.
Crystal Castles will headline Billboard in Melbourne on Wednesday 4 February, The Met in Brisbane on Friday 6 February, and The Capitol in Perth on Wednesday 11 February. The band will also perform at the Playground Weekender festival in Wisemans Ferry, NSW, on Saturday 7 February.
Since forming in 2004, the Toronto-based duo of Ethan Fawn and Alice Glass has amassed a cult following with their uncompromising and intense delivery, a slew of limited edition singles, and electrifying live performances. Over this time the band has toured extensively in the UK, Europe and North America, shared bills with the Klaxons and Metric, and has also remixed tracks for the likes of Bloc Party and the Klaxons, amongst others.
Following the release of several 7” singles and their self titled debut album in early 2008, front woman Alice Glass recently topped the NME ‘Cool List’ of 2008, trumping Jay Z, Andrew VanWyngarden of MGMT, Caleb Followill of Kings of Leon, M.I.A. and Ladyhawke.
Crystal Castles unique take on bleep-pop and electro glitch has seen them categorised as leaders of the 8-bit and nu-rave subgenres, however the band’s nihilist aesthetic and a diverse body of work suggests their sound is beyond classification.
