We invite you to help celebrate the 18th birthday of Nadine Dyskant-Miller, an aspiring, talented young flutist and composer whose music is rooted in the folk, classical and contradance traditions. She was diagnosed with leukemia last May, shortly after her family moved to Rochester. Over many years in the folk music community, I have found that folkies will support each other when there is need, so Heartland is very happy to help Nadine and her family with this benefit concert.

Crowfoot weaves musical influences from England, Ireland, Quebec, and the Appalachian Mountains into a captivating fusion that delights dancers and listeners alike. Into this meeting ground of traditions, they incorporate their own distinctive original compositions and songs.
Crowfoot originated in 2003, after a fortuitous meeting at a festival in Boston. They soon after became a touring band, playing throughout the US, Canada, and the UK. They have gained a reputation both on the concert stage and on the contra dance circuit for their trance-like grooves, subtle interplay, and unstoppable energy.
On the concert stage, rich vocal harmonies, haunting songs, and finely crafted instrumental arrangements compliment their infectious dance energy. Their diversity of instrumentation allows for a wide palette of sound, and audience members are consistently won over by the depth and variety of Crowfoot’s musical experience.
“For a start, these three are wicked musicians...This is music steeped in tradition but pasted thick and luxuriously with oodles of attitude, charisma and showmanship...there's plenty to recommend here. These guys are on a great journey and are a pretty exciting prospect to watch.”
