Less Fest is a priceless event that tackles consumerism in a sustainable way. Led by the Inspiring Young Emerging Leaders (I-YEL) interns in partnership with the Hayes Valley Farm, attendees learn how what they eat can affect the earth in either a positive or negative way, through a series youth-led games and activity booths. There will be free food and a live DJ, plus the “Corny Truth” mural will be unveiled.
Each year, I-YEL interns create a project addressing an environmental issue or social concern with a goal to help educate the public, spread awareness and empower action. This year, they have focused on how consumerism and food choices are connected to environmental and personal health. The mural colorfully compares how corn is grown, processed, transported, and disposed of using both conventional and sustainable methods and illustrates the effects on humans, animals and mother earth.
Event is free and open to all ages. Call (415) 561-7767 or visit www.crissyfield.org/iyel for more details.
