Singers hoping to earn a spot in the finals at Karaoke Fest 2010, the largest singing event of its kind, during the Los Angeles County Fair in September are invited to participate in the qualifying round events at the Orange County Market Place, the weekend swap meet at the O. C. Fair & Event Center in Costa Mesa. Children 17 and under compete in the Crème de la Kids Contest and adults, 18 and older, sing off in the Crème de la Crème Contest, both presented by Karaoke Scene Magazine.
Crème de la Kids qualifying rounds will be held Saturdays August 21, 28 and September 4 at 11 a.m. Signs up are from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Crème de la Crème for adults will have qualifying rounds on Saturdays, August 21, 28 and September 4 and Sundays, August 22 and 29 with singing beginning at 1 p.m. each date. Sign ups are from 11 a.m to 12:30 p.m. There is a $5 registration for each contestant.
Winners from the qualifying rounds compete in the semi-finals on Sunday, Sept 5 at the Market Place, and finalists who win there go on to compete at Karaoke Fest at the Los Angeles County Fair the following weekend on Sunday, Sept. 12.
The event presented by Karaoke Scene Magazine pits hundreds of amateur vocalists from Southern California with qualifying rounds held at 25 different venues throughout the Southland.
The Market Place will also host a qualifying round for the Crème de la King division during its 11th Annual Elvis Festival on Sunday, August 22. Sign ups from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. with contest starting at 11 a.m. Four finalists will be chosen to compete at Karaoke Fest.
At Karaoke Fest, 24 Crème de la Kids finalists sing off to win a $500 savings bond for first place, $300 savings bond for second place and $100 savings bond for third place, along with other prizes.
The Crème de la Crème for adults features 50 finalists: 25 women and 25 men, competing for the $1,000 cash prizes awarded for best male and female karaoke vocalists of the year. Four runners-up are also selected for each division who receive $200 each, and other prizes.
