Creaturesofthelight is a grassroots attempt to reclaim the cultural life of Jewish Melbourne for ourselves. An attempt to help nurture a diverse network of engaged human beings interested in something informal, fulfilling, participatory and fun - tied together with the knowledge of Judaism as culture that offers unlimited and inclusive permutations.

Our long-term vision is for a Jewish cultural festival right here in Melbourne - a project that we envision as grassroots, inclusive, diverse, nourishing and challenging.

8 December - Layla Lavan:

Working towards the cultural festival, this event is intended as an opportunity to explore the possibilities, talents and networks that each participant might offer. That is, this event will function both as a launching pad for the wider project and an opportunity to gauge its viability.

This event is also the fruition of boredom. A desire to bring together a smorgasbord of wild, uninhibited and deeply varied activities that express and explore Judaism as one facet of our own lives. Coinciding with the Jewish festival of lights, Channuka, this all night event will strive to break out from beyond the ordinary and encourage participation at both at the event itself and in future projects.
