Freeport, IL— See the “Creature from the Black Lagoon” starring Antonio Moreno, Ben Chapman and Richard Carlson, on Wednesday, March 6th at 1 and 7 PM at the Lindo Theatre. Movie admission to the third sci-fi epic is only $5, and tickets are available at the Lindo Theatre box office at 115 South Chicago Avenue. “Creature from the Black Lagoon” is the third film in the 50’s Science Fiction Film Series lineup, which is presented on select Wednesdays now until April.
“Creature from the Black Lagoon” was one of the first films to be filmed in 3D and was successful enough to spawn two sequels. This classic follows a team of doctors on a geology expedition in the Amazon where they uncover a fossil of a skeletal hand with webbed fingers. In an attempt to find the entire skeleton, they venture to the Black Lagoon where they encounter the amphibious “Gill-Man,” played by Ben Chapman. He (or it) has been watching them and kidnaps the head scientist’s beautiful assistant.
They launch a crusade to rescue her and cast the creature back to the depths from whence he came.
The series of 50’s Science Fiction Films was selected with the assistance of Dr. Ed Finch, executive director for the Freeport Historical Museum, and Alan Wenzel, the Speech and Communications instructor for Highland Community College. There will be a brief introduction before the movie and a discussion led by Dr. Ed Finch and Alan Wenzel following the movie. Movie-goers are encouraged to stay after the film to participate in this exchange.
Be sure to see the last film in the 50’s Science Fiction Film Series
April 3 – “Invasion of the Body Snatchers” (1956)
Plus a bonus feature:
April 24 – “The Music Man” (1962)
