Night is a magical time for photographers looking for a fresh outlet for their imaginations. Blacks are indeed black and colours seem to be more intense than in daylight while at the same time taking on a mysterious, enigmatic quality. Theres also the element of movement, which takes a different form at night. For example, people moving through a frame will disappear if its a time exposure and the light tracks made by vehicles, planes, stars, etc. remain visible while the objects that created them disappear. This course begins with a classroom discussion of some of the greats in the genre and a few basic techniques, after which participants do two night shoots on the streets of downtown Sydney. Participants receive online input from the tutor on their images between shoots. This is not a beginners class, so participants will need to know how to use their camera. They must also possess a tripod, a light meter and a cable release. Details of this event may be subject to change.
