Creating Handmade Books May 12, 2011

Students will create two books in this 3-hour class. The first will be an accordion book with pockets in which tea bags or packets of flower seeds can be inserted to send to a friend. The second will be a two-signature blank journal with a decorative spine in which poetry or beautiful quotes can be written. Students will learn the definitions of signature, bonefolder and scoring, spine, foredge and grain of paper, how to score and fold paper and how to sew signatures into a spine.
