Creating Creature Culture: Toy making with Derrick Hodgson January 12, 2008

Do you collect designer toys? Ever wondered how they got made? Wanna take a crack at turning your sketch into a toy? If so... here is your chance to spend a day with Derrick Hodgson, a local toy designer who has earned international recognition for crafting twisted creations out of all kinds of materials including vinyl, fabric and wood. Recently, he has moved away from vinyl concentrating on wood toys dyed applying natural colours, that could sit both on your office desk and home mantelpiece. These pieces really blur the line between toy and sculpture.

In the morning, you will hear the story behind his rise to prominence and how is work evolved. And, then in the afternoon, the workshop will be a hands-on session where Derrick will work with you to create your own toy.
