Toronto's Creaking Tree String Quartet plays a brand of roots-inflected string-band music that sounds reverently planted in the past, but duty-bound to the future. Borrowing Americana staples, jazz forms, and bluegrass aesthetics, this Canadian quartet churns out intellectual, yet deeply moving sounds on their third release, The Soundtrack. Juno Award-nominee (Canada's Grammy Award equivalent) string-band quartet features mandolinist Andrew Collins, guitarist Brad Keller, bassist Brian Kobayakawa, and violinist John Showman.
Other New York performances include May 26 at The Parkside Lounge http://www.parksidelounge.com/ and May 30 at Spike Hill in Brooklyn http://spikehill.com/
