California College of Art’s Center for Art and Public Life in partnership with Association of Independent Colleges of Art and Design (AICAD) and Massachusetts College of Art is hosting the symposium, “Crafting a Vision for Art, Equity and Civic Engagement: Convening the Community Arts Field in Higher Education,” to highlight artists’, scholars’ and students’ experiences by exchanging the best practices in the field. Typically, this setting does not lend itself to the active participation of artists; our goal is to provide a venue that will support the participation of artist/practitioners, who are contributing to the field via performance, visual and literary representations, as well as administrators, scholars and program directors who actively contribute to the written record. The symposium will consist of performances and exhibitions, five plenary sessions, several sixty-minute breakout sessions, and a publication. Sessions and Presentations will be a combination of performance and/or other artistic work (such as an installation or literary reading) a panel of community artists, constituents served by the work, discussants, etc.
