Life-cycle assessment (LCA) “is a technique to assess the environmental aspects and potential impacts associated with a product, process, or service, by: compiling an inventory of relevant energy and material inputs and environmental releases; evaluating the potential environmental impacts associated with identified inputs and releases; interpreting the results to help you make a more informed decision.” - USEPA.
LCA is being adopted by industry, and it is likely that life-cycle stewardship will be a management response to new environmental regulations as well as a voluntary response to new opportunities. In this conference we will critically examine the strengths and weaknesses of LCA as a guide for environmental decision making.
The conference will be held in the new Learning Centre, which is LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certified at the Silver level. The building reduces its environmental impact through energy efficiency, resource conservation and site design.
In addition to technical papers and presentations, there will be a student poster session, and some exhibition space for vendors to demonstrate products and services. Following the formal program there will be an A&WMA centennial / CPANS 20+ years reception.
Along with the organizing committee, I want to extend this personal invitation to you and members of your organization to attend our conference, and make our program a successful event. It is also a great networking opportunity for all of us. Please take a moment to review our program and plan to attend this high quality conference at an affordable price. I am looking forward to meeting you personally at the conference.
Thank you.
