Folk singer and political activist Country Joe McDonald has a rich history. From the San Francisco folk scene and his time with Country Joe & the Fish, to Woodstock in 1969, to a robust solo career, Country Joe McDonald continues to entertain while remaining politically active.
At the end of the summer of 1969, Country Joe & the Fish performed at the Woodstock Festival in upstate New York. The film of the Woodstock Festival was prepared for release in the spring of 1970, Country Joe's performance of the song "Fixin' To Die Rag" was in the middle of the film. The film brought the band's anti-war message into movie theaters all over the world.
Country Joe McDonald began his career as a solo artist in 1969 with a collection of Woody Guthrie songs. His solo recordings have spanned a broad range of styles and content; from the double-record set, "Vietnam Experience", to the blues outing with guest guitarist Jerry Garcia, "Superstitious Blues."
